About

Tumelo Mtimkhulu, a South African artist born in Germiston Johannesburg in 2001, has been invited to the upcoming edition of ArtNou. His artwork embodies a yearning for human connection, drawing inspiration from the Sub-Saharan concept of Ubuntu, which emphasizes the interconnectedness of humanity and the importance of community.

Mtimkhulu values the profound layering of history, meaning, and emotion in his work. Combining elements of drawing and painting, his pieces evoke a sense of elusiveness, suggesting the struggle to attain a complete sense of self. Mtimkhulu's enigmatic portraits possess an undeniable magnetism, leaving viewers with a profound sense of dignity that defies explanation, while encouraging interpretation and introspection.
