At this event we will explore in which ways artists and artist led projects access empty buildings.

About

Jo Leahy, Director of Stroud Valleys' Art Space (SVA) has been working with artists, landlords and property agents to set up over 30 empty property spaces since 2007, using Meanwhile Leases since their introduction in 2009. She will discuss the process of working in this way and some of the initiatives she has helped to support. Hannah Clark, Artistic Director for Bristol Biennial, will be presenting their use of unusual spaces, with examples from the 2014 programme. Hannah will talk about an individualised approach to working with ‘non-art’ spaces.

Following the presentations,Grace Davies of Visual Arts South West will chair a discussion exploring the opportunities for artists in Plymouth to gain use of empty buildings. The panel will also include representatives from the City Council planning department, Vickie Fear co-ordinator of PAC associates and local developers.

This event has been developed in partnership with Visual Arts South West.
