About
We’ll be joined by a representative for Americans for Immigrant Justice, who will discuss the organization’s mission followed by a sewing workshop led by Molina.
The So (Sew) America Cares project consists of sewing textiles on canvas. Participants will purchase these kits in advance from Americans for Immigrant Justice for $25 (plus $10 shipping). The kits come with thread, needle, and a canvas that has been laser-etched with a child’s face. The images of the children are composites of children who were kept at detention centers in the US.
So (sew) America Cares is a participatory social art project with a commitment to raise awareness about the lives of the children separated from their parents at the border. This Project’s mission is to advocate for these children and to extend an invitation to anyone who would like to participate. Thread by thread, fiber by fiber, a participating community will increase its understanding of the circumstances of these children.
