Baltic Appearances – Baltische Erscheinung
Photography by Klaus W. Eisenlohr, Berlin meets video work by Rimigijus Venckus, Vilnius, Lithuania. Baltic places are set in relation to figure and space. Venckus creates characters who encounter a wintry urban landscape in Lithuania. He also appears in first person as a critical personae in relation to society, to media and technology. Eisenlohr takes pictures of urban environments in the three Baltic capitals Vilnius, Riga and Tallinn. His photographic triptychs comprise urban images and public sculptures. In both works the ambivalence of public figures becomes apparent. This also embraces the political and social life as part of the European Union, and the still resonant post-soviet experiences.
