Artist talk with Bruno Besana, Philosopher // Collateral Event of "WTF* is identity now?" Silvia Beck | Claudia Schmitz
About
Bruno Besana *studied philosophy at the Paris VIII University, under the direction of Jacques Rancière. He has taught contemporary philosophy, aesthetics and Greek philosophy at the Paris VIII University, Bard College for Liberal Arts, Berlin and Universität der Künste, Berlin. He is a former fellow of the ICI Kulturlabor, Berlin, of the Jan van Eyck Academie, Maastricht (NL) and a former resident of the Hordaland Kunstsenter, Bergen (NO). Together with Ozren Pupovac he has founded the research collective Vesuslaboratory. He has explored the relationship between art and philosophy in numerous projects with artists and art institutions.
Starting from different perspectives, Silvia Beck and Claudia Schmitz negotiate the existential question of human identity and the artistic self. The artists create an experimental set-up for the exhibition in which they explore both the mechanisms of artistic self-staging and the phenomenon of artificial artistic intelligence. Their playfully synchronised arrangement uses the media of video and projection on sculpture as well as drawing and text and invites visitors to take a fresh look at the future of artistic self-understanding and authenticity.
