Queer artist and Round Lemon co-founder, Ryan Asbury talks about their Plutopia narrative and why it is relevant to their current work.
About
Ryan Asbury (Dyson) is an artist living and working in Birmingham, UK. A final year student at the Birmingham School of Art, they are one of the founding members and is the current director of the art collective Round Lemon.
Their work explores many themes encircling the ‘inexonaivety’ of humans. Societal issues surrounding kink, sex work and queer identity. Their work comes in many different forms and mediums Including writing, performance, digital constructs and painting. Most notably their sexual and domestic performance ‘CAMSHOW’ in 2019.
More recently, the creation of ‘Switch Manifesto’ in 2020 acts as a centerpiece for their work to orbit. Exploring the narrative that queer people are evacuating Earth and seeking asylum on Pluto – a space rock which has a fluctuating identity. With the hope of finding a more inclusive regime.
This talk will take place on ZOOM and will include a Q and A with the artist.
