Hear from international ceramic artist Matthew Raw about his art practice and his latest project in Loughborough to produce a new public artwork.

About

Matthew Raw is a ceramic artist who explores the physical and communicative properties of the ceramic tile. He uses textures and language to tell stories of people and place.

As part of his Handicrafts Artist Residency with LU Arts at Loughborough University, Matthew has been commissioned to produce a new public artwork for the façade of the former Art School building in Loughborough town centre (Frederick Street) – now called The Generator.

This event will introduce you to Matthew’s art practice and discuss the project, but he also wants to use it to collect stories and memories from former staff and students who studied/worked in the building, that will help inform the content of his work.

About Matthew Raw

Matthew studied at the Royal College of Art and in 2015 he completed the prestigious ceramics residency at the Victoria and Albert Museum as well as winning a Jerwood Makers Award in 2014. You can see examples of Matthew’s work and find out more about him on Instagram: @mattrawworksinclay
