In Between Gallery: Stealing Oranges to Take Home for His Mother by Fion Hung Ching-Yan
14 Jun 2023 – 30 Sep 2023
Fabrica
Brighton, United Kingdom
£5/£4
In conversation with Vivienne Gamble from Seen Fifteen gallery, Fion Hung Ching-Yan will talk about her working process & subject matter. The discussion will be followed by a Q&A.
This summer Fabrica’s In Between Gallery presents two images by Fion Hung Ching-Yan from her photo collage series The Skeletons in The Closet. In this project, Fion challenges Chinese stereotypes and moralisations by drawing on a collection of traditional folk tales as a visual metaphor to talk about family expectations, self-identity and the pain that her and her family have inflicted on each other. By taking a surrealist approach to her image making, she subverts her family's authority within their traditional values, creating a reality that can never be seen in real life.
The In Between Gallery 2023 is a collaborative project involving: Fabrica, Photofringe, Spectrum Photographic, Jane & Jeremy, Curator Cairo Clarke and Artist & Curator Ibrahim Azab.
A 40-minute conversation followed by Q&A. Doors open and pay bar open at 6pm, and the talk will begin at 6.30pm.
