About

To coincide with the Ruins in Reverse exhibition at Tate Modern's Project Space, this is a unique opportunity to join Amalia Pica, the London-based Argentine artist, for a talk about her practice. Questioning art's role as a form of communication, she will share with us some of the ideas and processes that inspire and drive her practice. Pica works across a wide range of media including sculpture, drawing, photography, installation, performance and film. For this exhibition at Tate Modern, Pica's video On Education 2008 points to the instability of monuments and their meaning through ironically reflecting upon the validity of monumental statuary as national educational tools. Pica will be in conversation with Flavia Frigeri, Assistant Curator at Tate Modern and co-curator of The Project Space exhibition Ruins in Reverse. Amalia Pica (born 1978, Argentina) lives and works in London. Recent solo exhibitions include the MIT List Visual Arts Center and Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago (2013); Modern Art Oxford (2013), Chisenhale Gallery (2012), Chronic Listeners, Kunsthalle Sankt Gallen (2012); Marc Foxx Gallery, Los Angeles (2011); C-sale, Malmo Konsthall, Sweden (2010). She was one of the participating artists in the 54th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale (2011) as well as The Ungovernables, New Museum Triennial, New York (2012). Pica has been awarded The Paul Hamlyn Foundation Award for Artists 2011 and was shortlisted for the New Generation Art Prize 2012.
