About

Over the next year Whitstable Biennale will host a series of events which will combine showcases of work by North Kent artists working with film, sound or performance (selected by open call (deadline 31 Jan)) alongside presentations from invited speakers from artist-led initiatives in the surrounding areas.

The events will be open to artists and curators from across the county to come see new work, meet other practitioners and find out about nearby organisations. There will be a chance for North Kent artists to show work to peers and curators, gain feedback, form new networks and find out more about opportunities to work with organisations who are currently commissioning artists close by.

The first showcase is on 21 February 2019 in the lecture theatre at UCA Rochester (10 mins walk from Chatham Station). A list of the artists presenting work will be posted here. Limited parking is available on campus. There is also on-street parking which is charged for. If you wish to reserve accessible parking contact us.

This event is part of the Whitstable Biennale Artist Development Programme 2019.

About the invited organisations:

Well Projects
Well Projects is an artist-led organisation that operates as an events and gallery space and supports a public programme. Inhabiting a shop-front in Margate, Well Projects looks to the water well for direction; as an interstice in a location, as a reservoir and as a place to gather.

Operating alongside Well Projects is Well Press – a risograph print studio and open source archive. Together they support the presentation and sharing of high quality art and research that showcases a diversity of creative positions within the arts, science, politics, economy, geography and ecology.

Well Projects first major exhibition and publication of 2019 – ‘I’m in the Bath on All Fours’ opens 8th March. More information coming soon.

Well Projects is organised by Kris Lock, George Harding & Emily Whitebread.
