This is a one day course that explores the beauty of direct positive paper. Direct positive paper allows the photographer to shoot their image directly to fibre based paper and then develop in the darkroom as you would a normal print. No film needed!

About

During the day you will be working with two photographers Mark Hilton & Jake Laird, learning about and engaging with their practice.

WIth Mark Hilton you will be using his unique hand built 11×14 camera in our studio. This amazing cameras produces stunning ethereal images direct to the paper making each photograph entirely unique. During your time in the studio you can produce both self portraits and still life images. The still lives can be made from objects you bring in, precious mementos etc., or you can create your own from our props. This is a very hands on process and you will be able to make up to 3 11×14 photography with the option of buying more paper on the day.

With Jake Laird you will be using his custom designed 5×7 pin hole cameras. Jake has designed and built these pinholes to take direct positive paper allowing pinhole images direct to paper. After a brief talk on pinhole technique you will head out to capture you images taking in the Peckham landscape.

This direct positive experience will give you both practical knowledge of this technique whilst gaining insight into the artistic practice of your course leaders. You’ll also leave with a series of exceptional and unique photographs.
