New works by three emerging artists considering our place in the world.
About
The culmination of a year of mentoring and support for three artists by The Brewery Arts Centre, Kendal, in conjunction with Castlefield Gallery, Manchester.
Louis Appleby, current winner of the Lynn Painter Stainer Award for young artist, paints the familiar British home, referencing history and present day. How we may be desensitized from certain subjects by the manner in which we receive them.
Liz Ford, a self-taught artist, with growing interest in contemporary landscape. She portrays the land as we see it today, shaped by human hand. Liz explores the contrasts of sharpness and soft blurring of reflected light through paint.
Maggie Hargreaves, winner of the John Ruskin Prize for Drawing 2014, explores the constantly shifting space where our cultural and social worlds collide with the natural world we inhabit through large immersive charcoal drawings and delicate etchings.
