Arthur Jafa's practice intertwines power and lyricism, skilfully blending unsettling images and histories drawn from various contexts and backgrounds. By tapping into affective memory, he explores poignant topics like the history of the United States, violence, repression, and the ways in which survival is shaped within the realms of images, music, sound, and time-based media. Through his work, Jafa delves into the essence of race and blackness, contemplating their ontology and significance. In his latest work SloPEX (2022), he extends the original 8-minute 22-second video of his acclaimed masterpiece APEX (2013) into a 105-minute duration.
