In a first for the Middle East, ArtBAB 2019 (6th – 10th March) will present an amazing Virtual Reality Corner, showcasing stunning virtual art collections of Dutch Old Masters and Chinese contemporary artists. ArtBAB are partnering with UNFOLD Art Xchange to present a diverse speakers programme, which will delve into VR and AI art, as well as arts philanthropy and the Middle Eastern and global art markets. Themed ‘Legacies’, the fair will explore the Bahraini contemporary art scene and its foundation in the Kingdom’s rich art heritage.
The Bahrain Across Borders programme, which attracted more than 100 applicants, will display Bahraini artists who have been selected by a panel including Amal Khalaf (Projects Curator, Serpentine Gallery London) and Rebecca Anne Proctor (Editor-in-Chief, Harper’s Bazaar Art Arabia), in order to highlight the country’s art on a global platform. Acclaimed Indian fashion designer JJ Valaya will work closely with Bahraini craftspeople to present traditional and contemporary crafts, opening creative new channels while preserving timeless crafts traditions through the theme ‘Legacies’.
This fourth edition of ArtBAB aims to reinforce Bahrain’s position in the Gulf as a regional arts hub, inspiring entrepreneurship, art education and local skills development.
