Art Vinyl, the champions of Art & Design for vinyl records, join forces with their longstanding friends at the renowned UK dance label Hospital Records, to launch a unique Virtual Vinyl Exhibition celebrating Hospital’s 25th Anniversary hosted at Defected Records HQ in London.
The ArtVinyl Virtual Exhibition allows visitors to wander online through a retrospective of Hospital Records’ archives displayed in Art Vinyl’s unique FlipFrames and signature exhibition format, for a highly immersive 360-experience with ‘hot spots’ dotted around the gallery for sleeve art credits, anecdotes about the creative process and soundtracks.
Founded in 1996 by Tony Colman and Chris Goss, independent label Hospital Records celebrates 25 years of releasing UK dance music this year. Having been one of the first dance labels to curate an Art Vinyl exhibition at the gallery on Broadway Market in East London back in 2006 it was fitting that the collaboration would be rekindled for this special milestone with a technological upgrade to navigate around Covid restrictions.
The exhibition promises to be a feast for the senses as Hospital Records’ sleeve designs have always stayed ahead of the game when it comes to original design, retaining a cheeky spirit to this day with sleeve art that carries the essential Hospital identity.
Art Vinyl has curated touring exhibitions across the UK and Europe for the past 17 years for its annual Best Art Vinyl Award, the unique contemporary art prize that celebrates record cover design by compiling the best in art, photography and graphic design in modern music culture. Best Art Vinyl 2020 overcame Lockdown restrictions with an unprecedented Virtual Exhibition format, allowing online visitors to wander through and vote for their favourite record cover designs of the year. With over 12,000 votes the public vote awarded first place to the cover art for Bristol punk band IDLES’ Ultra Mono, on Partisan records for 2020.
