Art and Value is an exhibition consisting of work made by four artists in conversation with researchers from the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN), King’s College London.

Bethlem Gallery is delighted to present a new exhibition, Art & Value. Artists Sarah Carpenter, Beth Hopkins, Leon B and Robyn Smith make work in conversation with academics and researchers from Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN), King’s College London.

What do we measure and why? What does art help us to value?

In a world where different methods are used to measure illness, wellness and recovery, artists investigate how researchers identify and communicate value, adding their individual perspectives on what deserves to be counted and why.

IN THE STUDIO: Unescorted #9

Unescorted showcases artwork by patients who have used medium secure services at Bethlem Royal Hospital, South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. The title Unescorted refers to the leave status granted to secure patients during their recovery. Unescorted #9 shows how artists work with ideas of value and measure within the particular structures of day-to-day life in the Medium Secure Unit at River House.
