Tarik Kiswanson’s work explores the notions of the self, belonging, life, death, migration, transformation, and of being, among a multitude of other themes, both personal and universal. He looks as much into his own experience as he does into deeply researched anthropological artefacts that comprise his familial narrative and the essence of his being in society.

Kiswanson utilises a variety of unexpected media: a melting candle cast in resin, ovoid forms of unknown material hovering within the gallery space; charcoal drawings that resemble photography, but are not quite as revealing; and x-ray scans of ancient and modern textiles that tower above the viewer as if to stretch their importance in history.
