ART TALK (ONLINE)
Félix González-Torres and His Influence in Contemporary Art:
Justin Polera in conversation with Ariel Reichman
Thursday April 8th, 8pm Berlin time

About

Justin discusses his Master’s Thesis research on conceptual icon Félix González-Torres and the influence his work has had on contemporary art today. Justin is a researcher and art historian at HUA International, as well as the founder of PS120, Berlin, an independent non-profit art space located on Potsdamer Strasse in Schöneberg. He is currently pursuing his graduate studies at JFKI Freie Universität, working on his thesis entitled „The Performing Object.“

Ariel Reichman is an artist whose work often draws on the emotional abstract experience of living with conflict and war – a reality that belongs to everyday life in Israel and South Africa, where he was born and raised until the age of 13, and especially has political relevance today. The confrontation with life and death forms a recurrent theme in both his and Félix González-Torres’ oeuvres, the latter having witnessed many of his friends succumb to AIDS in the 1980s. Ariel was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, lived in Tel Aviv since 1991, and has been rooted in Berlin since 2006. He studied at the Bezalel Academy of Art in Jerusalem and at Universität der Künste Berlin (UdK) (class of Hito Steyerl). His solo show ‘This is Worse’ is currently on view at PSM Gallery, Berlin through April 10th, 2021 One can participate in his work “I AM (NOT) SAFE” through this link. His outdoor installation “Playground” is open at the Kunstverein Arnsberg until October of this year.
