About

Art Seen, established in 1993 as a multidisciplinary fine art advisory and gallery representing a select group of artists from around the globe, presents “Pyramid Schemes” by artist Marwan Shahin.

Marwan Shahin rose to fame ten years ago during the Egyptian revolution also known as the Arab Spring when a series of anti-government protests, uprisings and armed rebellions spread across much of the Arab world. His works captured the spirit of the resistance and provided a powerful response to the propaganda fueled media of the time. His pièce de résistance and most recognizable work titled “Anonymous Pharaoh” combines the mask used by Anonymous, the activist / hacktivist collective, with the pharaoh Tutankhamun’s golden mask.

Shahin’s practice is a celebration of the creative disciplines of his ancestors going back 5000 years, documenting modern history in-the-making through beautiful, thoughtprovoking art. In his new body of work created for “Pyramid Schemes” Shahin explores disruptive concepts to bridge the gap between the past, present, and future. By merging the digital and the physical, he declares absolute freedom of expression on global issues addressing environmental concerns, prejudice, and social commentary with depictions of our modern-day culture such as social media and crypto currency. He draws much of his inspiration from archival images of ancient Egyptian art continuing that legacy of storytelling as a modern-day scribe through traditional paintings, works on papyrus, sculpture, limited edition prints and now NFTs. In the same way ancient Egyptian art has served to enlighten us about beliefs, events, and the state of the region of its time, his work will live on as artifact for future generations.
