The work of the artists, Michael Flechtner and Linda Sue Price,
demonstrates the use of neon tubes as an expressive artistic medium and their different approaches to neon show two compelling and original viewpoints.
About
Artist Reception, 2 - 4 pm, Sunday, February 19 with a live jazz performance by Granville Danny Young and Koji Ono.
Since its beginnings in the 1920's, neon has primarily been used as attention grabbing signage and architectural lighting. Michael and Linda have undertaken learning the time- and labor-intensive craft of fabricating their own neon tubes. Luminous tube (neon) fabrication is a discipline that requires years of practice. Their work challenges the limited viewpoint that neon is only for signage in a very informed manner. They both recognize the beauty of the glowing colored light and carefully manipulate the medium in traditional and non-traditional ways to express two very personal takes on the world they see around them.
