This PhD viva show by Katarina Rankovic is one of the outcomes of a 3 year research project about the notion of “making a character come to life”. Other outcomes include The Appendix, a series of performance experiments in character morphology; Anomaline, a novel starring a protagonist with no personality, and Scripting for Agency, a scholarly text about character, performance and the mechanics of self.

As above, so below configures the PhD research and artwork in light of the vertical duality of the spaces occupied and its potential spiritual connotations. On the ground floor can be found The Story of Room 03, a sound piece made specifically for this show in collaboration with Room 03. On the top floor can be found Letter to the Dominant Character, a screening of five characters plus a letter written to Katarina by one of her personae.
