The art market is the world's largest unregulated (legal) market, and prices of works of art, especially contemporary art, sail into the stratosphere when some artists are still in their twenties. Collectors amass holdings of contemporary art only to resell the a few years later, barely out of the packaging. What, if any, is the logic of the art market and how does it affect the actual production of art - and is it possible to exist as an artist outside of it?
This lecture explores trends in art collecting and among collectors. It is designed to appeal to both curious beginners and more knowledgeable art-lovers. London Art Studies' events are 'spas for the mind' - a wonderful way to switch off, learn and have fun.
