Binding Perfomance
Kou Shirai from Tokyo
In Japan, since ancient times the binding of ropes has symbolized a sacred act that pervades all natural processes. In shrines ropes were used to distinguish sacred places from other places. Binding is considered to have the power of connecting people or things, filling them with the feelings of the person who binds them. Kou Shirai expresses this power, his feelings and spirituality through his binding works.
At the event, Kou will perform the binding with a part of your body or your belongings. “I wish you to experience the Japanese binding art.
Please bring your belogings that you wish to be bound.” - Kou Shirai
