Işıl Eğrikavuk's interest in the skill and art of disagreement comes to the fore in a week-long exhibition framed and composed by two live performances.

About

Photographs and ephemera that result from the first set of visitor interactions will accumulate and be displayed in the space following the initial performance.

Defining disagreement as: the failure to agree, a difference of opinion, an argument caused by people having different opinions about something, and the state of being different or unalike; Eğrikavuk poses the questions:

Is it possible to accept disagreement and civilize it? Can one find negative capability in a conflict and benefit from it? Or is disagreement equal to rage and chaos?

The performances, which take place from 18.30 - 20.30 on the opening and closing days of the exhibition, introduce a line of individuals who greet visitors and frame the site of SALT Ulus as a space of negotiation. Their gestures and spoken lines are scripted by Eğrikavuk, who has taken inspiration from the confrontations photographed in the Turkish Parliament and dialogue sourced from the Constitution Conciliation Committee's archival records. A series of moments of potential agreement or disagreement will unfold, during which visitors are asked to consider where the answers to the above questions lie.

The exhibition coincides with the Festival on Wheels' Ankara program (November 27 - December 3) to which Eğrikavuk has been invited to show her video works and present on her practice.

The performances will be conducted in Turkish.
