Cornelia Baltes’ brightly coloured paintings combine simplicity with humour and playfulness. Real-world observations are stripped back to their simplest form; creating new abstract patterns and rhythms.

About

Their bold graphic qualities often spill out over the surface and on to the walls and surrounding architecture in which they inhabit.

For Chapter’s Lightbox, Baltes has created a new site-specific work – two giant cartoon hands emerge from either side of the building's entrance, reaching to clasp each other in a handshake. This ‘body’ of work also extends to our caffi bar where more hands, fingers and arms dangle from glass ceilings and protrude around walls, claiming the space as their own.
