Since Counter Space’s participation in Gasträume – Kunst auf öffentlichen Plätzen Zürichs, the public artwork Stage of Meditation by Chinese artist Qiu Anxiong has been seated in three different locations in Zurich.
About
In the summer of 2014, it was located at Sigi-Feigel-Terrasse in downtown Zurich, in autumn at Hardplatz, and thereafter at a location at Hardturmstrasse in Zurich West, close to Fischerweg with its numerous walkers and runners. Counter Space is pleased to announce its next location of the meditation room, at St. Jakob’s Church at Stauffacher in Kreis 4, Zurich. Qiu has conceived an accessible meditation room in Zurich. The new site-specific work consists of a handmade wood construction (ca. 4.40 x 2.20m): a hemispherical vessel, opened at the top, in which visitors can physically set foot individually. “The ‘Seat of Meditation’ may be a fragment of time and space out of the stream of external daily life. It remains unknown before being constructed or discovered by the participants. We expect that this kind of self-rediscovery would be a chance to find ourselves, to talk to ourselves, revealing our deeply inner world in our minds.” – Qiu Anxiong, 2010
