About
As part of a Europe-wide Art in Building process in spring 2023, twelve artists developed concepts for the Bauhaus Archive / Museum of Design - a place for creative learning, interdisciplinary exchange and critical dialogue.
The Bauhaus Archive has been under renovation since 2018 - it is currently being renovated and expanded in accordance with listed buildings. Part of this construction task – and an integral element of building culture in Germany – is “art in construction”: the obligation to use part of the construction costs of public buildings for works of art. For this purpose, the State of Berlin, represented by the Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion, in coordination with the Senate Department for Urban Development, Building and Housing and the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media as well as the Bauhaus Archive / Museum for Design, organized a restricted, single-phase art competition with an upstream, Europe-wide open application process.
The winning design will be chosen on September 26, 2023!
The exhibition now presents the design recommended for realization by the jury as well as the other eleven concepts submitted as part of the art competition - and thus shows how differently and diversely artists react to the architecture and use of the Bauhaus Archive / Museum of Design.
The exhibition can be seen from October 25th, 2023 to November 28th, 2023 in the temporary bauhaus archive.
