A collaboration between Kettle's Yard and Kiln Cambridge. This workshop will explore the studio pottery in the Kettle's Yard House followed by a Kiln Cambridge studio tour and an opportunity to create your own piece in the studio.

About

In the morning, enjoy a private tour of the House at Kettle’s Yard following tea and coffee. Learn more about pottery and ceramics through seeing and understanding the work of potters such as Bernard Leach, Lucie Rie and William Staite Murray and other important ceramicists. The work in the House and Jennifer Lee: the potter’s space exhibition will be introduced by one of our knowledgeable visitor assistants and two of the creative staff from Kiln Cambridge.

Then, take part in a creative session in the Clore Learning Studio where you can start a sketchbook of thoughts and ideas with tutor support, taking inspiration from your tour. Following a break for lunch (not provided) the group will travel to the Kiln Cambridge studio by minibus.

The afternoon session will start with ‘Inspiration and Aspiration’ – linking students’ experience in the House with discussion about their own piece. A studio tour and induction will be followed by an introduction to glazes and mark-making on clay with an opportunity to practice on clay tiles, time spent on surface finishes will be followed by tea.

After tea, choose two of your pieces for final glaze firing. You will be notified when the piece is ready for collection.

Tickets £170, including two refreshment breaks, all materials and firing costs, a private tour of the House, a piece of your own work to keep
