Polkadot joins BitBasel's groundbreaking Art for Impact Space Program, enabling artists worldwide to send their creations to the Moon as part of humanity's permanent off-world archive.
About
This unprecedented collaboration will preserve selected artworks on the lunar surface through the Galactic Library Preserve Humanity (GLPH) initiative. The collection will travel aboard Astrobotic's Griffin-1 lander via NASA's CLPS program, utilizing revolutionary Nanofiche technology that protects artworks from cosmic radiation and extreme temperature fluctuations for millennia.
As a leader in sustainable blockchain solutions, Polkadot brings its Web3 expertise to this cross-disciplinary project that merges art, technology and social impact. Artists are invited to submit 2D representations (including digital works, photographs and traditional art) interpreting any of the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
An esteemed selection panel comprising BitBasel, Polkadot, GLPH and University of Florida Blockchain Lab experts will choose works that best combine artistic merit with meaningful SDG representation. Successful applicants will earn a place in history as their creations become part of the first curated art collection on another celestial body.
"This mission transcends typical art exhibitions by creating an eternal testament to human creativity and values," noted BitBasel's Scott Spiegel. "Polkadot's participation ensures this message resonates throughout the decentralized community and beyond."
The lunar art capsule is scheduled for deployment in late 2025 via SpaceX launch systems, marking a new chapter in spacefaring cultural preservation.
