Dr. Magdalena Holzhey, collection curator of the Kunstmuseen Krefeld and a renowned Beuys expert, will use this unique, self-contained ensemble to shed light on the significance of drawing for Beuys and the artist’s repertoire of forms.
About
The central role that drawing played for Joseph Beuys has been emphasized often enough, including by himself. As “forms of thought” and a medium of cognition, his drawings are akin to a look into the laboratory of a researcher who uses the expressive richness of the graphic medium to elaborate and concretize ideas and motifs of his expanded concept of art. Deutsche Bank owns part of the collection of works on paper that Beuys compiled himself on the occasion of his drawing exhibition at the Galerie Schmela in 1972. Dr. Magdalena Holzhey, collection curator of the Kunstmuseen Krefeld and a renowned Beuys expert, will use this unique, self-contained ensemble to shed light on the significance of drawing for Beuys and the artist’s repertoire of forms.
