DTLA Arts District‘s Mateo & 7th Gallery is pleased to present a group exhibition of pandemic-era-inspired works. This art showcase highlights the collective and individual lessons gained through this time of immense change in the global landscape. Raising funds benefitting The Humane Society International and Life Rolls On Foundation.
Globally recognized artist Shepard Fairey and founder of OBEY Giant showcases over 30 unique works and two installations. View paintings, sculptures, and a new mural from street artist turned rising fine art star Kelly Graval, RISK. Renowned contemporary sculptor Jason Meadows will show works that survey the components of urban structure through abstraction. International Artist Yassi Mazandi debuts her “sculptAR,” entitled "Novem Momento Mori," an augmented reality piece, a QR code activated reality piece based on her detailed signature ceramic works.
Sneaker dissector & sculptor Freehand Profit will showcase his iconic sneaker masks and reconstructed mixed media works. Riley Holloway paints figures and creates portraiture rich in drama, history, and intimacy. Chilean-born Victor Castillo shares his pop-surreal paintings that appropriate American cartoon vernacular and reconstruct the violence of colonization in pictorial form. Cole James displays artwork that comments on the lockdown experience through an abstract vocabulary of marks, colors, drips, and shapes. Thomas Garner’s featured work remixes his classic Venetian Master’s painting technique with vintage pop culture, producing nearly dream-like images within a new context of painted works.
Elizabeth Orleans, known for her site-specific ceramic installations, will have a large multi-piece ceramic piece on display. Artist and curator Damon Martin showcases various oil paintings and debuts his mobile light installation honoring the Black lives lost to police brutality.
In addition to our gallery show, this exclusive-masked live event will celebrate the legacy of skateboarding legend Mike Ternasky along with Danny Way and 30 years of the PLAN B Skate Team. Attendees will experience live painting, giveaways, and music featuring DJ sets by edIT from The Glitch Mob, DJ Paper, and a DJ set by Shepard Fairey.
Art Beyond Survival seeks to provide a safe space to gather together again. The event will limit capacity to 50% to reduce transmission risk.
