ars viva 2022: In dialogue with the collection of the Brücke Museum

This year's winners are Tamina Amadyar (* 1989 in Kabul, Afghanistan), Lewis Hammond (* 1987 in Wolverhampton, UK) and Mooni Perry (* 1990 in Seoul, South Korea).

In the justification of the jury of the Kulturkreis der Deutschen Wirtschaft it says:

“Tamina Amadyar's painting combines color and form studies with moments of personal perception. In it, she recalls the places she has been and primarily deals with the light and space experiences she experienced during her travels, such as to Afghanistan or California. Her often large-format paintings usually place two colors in a dialogue with one another. In her color studies she plays with complementary contrasts, overpainting and geometric shapes. By using pigments with rabbit glue, she creates impressively luminous fields of color that, when applied in quick movements, give her paintings space and structure.

Lewis Hammond opens up places of dystopian borderline experience in his paintings in muted, earthy tones. Everyday scenes, some personal experiences, are staged in the style of baroque painting, including depictions of people from his environment as well as inner images of past encounters. On the border between surrealism and magical realism, forms of ancient symbolism appear, which become new figures through the connection of one's own experiences. Using historical painting techniques, contemporary works of art are created that reveal a glimpse into the artist's vast, complex imagery.

Mooni Perry's artistic practice is characterized by her research on the subjects of “Human Animal Studies”, “Veganism” and “(Asian) Feminism”. Her research starts critically at their interfaces and finds its artistic expression in film-based works and installations. References to Korean poetry and theory can be found in their videos as well as the use of vocal or instrumental performances. Interview sequences and documentary material as well as ambiguous representations of figures in the form of 3D animations are put together by Perry into multilayered video works. “

The works of the three artists are in dialogue with the works of the bridgeArtist shown. The integration of contemporary discourses in connection with the collection of the Brücke Museum will also be explored further through ars viva 2022 .
