Around The Island Art Trail

A special opportunity to take a peek inside the studios of some of the finest artists in Cumbria. The coast area around Bowness-on-Solway which lies to the west of Carlisle on the Solway Firth is known locally as 'the island' and is home to several professional artists. A great day out looking around a fascinating and diverse mix of studios whilst exploring this stunning Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Each artist will be on hand to discuss their creative methods and ideas as well as selling their work. This year we are delighted to include a group exhibition at the chapel in Port Carlisle as well as specially invited guest artist Mark Gibbs. Leaflets showing the route and places of interest will be available from TICs and museums throughout the county as well as a waymarked trail to guide you around the 8 venues. Only 30 minutes from Carlisle we think you will enjoy the journey, and find lots to see and be inspired by. Look out for the ‘sunny flags’ beside the road.

Take time to explore this ancient landscape- internationally important salt marsh and raised bog areas make this a unique paradise for wildlife and artists alike! A warm welcome awaits.
