L'espace de l'espèce
Berlin, Germany
Cautious and careful - the exhibition is centred around an in situ piece lending its name. Ariel Gout‘s "Palm Pebbles" are calmly unfolding in front of us. Tone in tone in a white space with muted shades of white and beige they are modestly engaging with one another. Their delicate play arises through their combination into a complex and intricate installation revealing a network woven through time and space.
Similar to Ariel Gout‘s interests her Palm Pebbles are growing in motion within temporal and spacial dimensions. Companions along her path and travels, they are growing in quantity and gain shapes throughout the acquisition of new impulses and experiences collected on her passage.
The variation of places, encounters and environments in relation to the repeating creation of the Palm Pebbles leads to their organic expansion and their specific growth to shapes in the exhibition setting. They connect to the space as they grow in relation to it.
At first sight they might all appear equal and very similar. But bearing witness to the notion of creation with her hands they reveal traces of her fingerprints, traces of the becoming of form through the movement of the clay in her hand and thus they are in fact all individual in shape. One multiplied form is site specifically expanding in front of our eyes. Inviting us to follow their journey, a net full of inscribed information. Delicate, silent, pure and almost fragile they appear as stones in front of our eyes intriguing us to contemplatively fall into their expansion, equally interconnecting to unfold another path and story line.
A reenactment of a performative act.

The exhibition is being complemented by a selection of drawings and artist‘s books.
