The Situation Room is pleased to present new work by Arden Surdam. On view September  8th – September 30th, Solid Liquid, will feature food and photographic chemistry "cooked" images installed in open agar agar lined glass vitrines. The work on view highlights Surdam’s continued interest in the relationship between studio and kitchen, photography and painting. These lensless images are not only intended to capture a reality beyond the camera lens, but also serve as a technical process through which the photograph is situated by its chemical and time-based construction. Each unique piece will deteriorate over the exhibition period, changing form, composition, and scent.

Arden Surdam is an L.A. based artist. She received her BA in Visual Arts from Oberlin College and her MFA from CalArts in 2015.  She was recently named winner of Focus Photo L.A. and has exhibited at Paris Photo LA, PhotoBasel, A+E Studios, Arturo Bandini, SLOAN Projects, among others. Her work has been featured in Whitewall Magazine, BlouinArtInfo, Photograph Magazine, and Flaunt Magazine
