About
Counter to the common line ‘apply now!’, Apply Later! isn't an entry level job position calling for 10 years of experience. It isn't a university degree with limited facility access and limited tuition. It isn’t an open call show with tight curatorial theming requirements, and doesn't have vague points about vague aesthetics or give obvious answers to obvious questions. We are sorry to inform you that.. Apply Later! is a self-funded, artist-led exhibition, operating on our own terms.
Apply Later! is seeking to be outside the boxes we should be ticking. The practices of the artists in Apply Later!, if there is a linking facet, tend to involve investigations into that which at first glance seems not worth serious attention, unveiling hidden complexity in the mundane and the fanciful, the obscure and the ornamental. Finding meaning in the charismatic pointless. If there are lessons in the work, they perhaps aren't ones that directly apply now, but rather are single pixels in an ever increasing image of the world, each one forming a part of some wider resolution. Little moments and realisations which together form a greater and deeper understanding. This picture takes time to build, and the meaning of an individual pixel only comes when seen in a context that is ever evolving. The true essence of this is in a curiosity, a feeling, a learning which in the immediate moment is hard to place, but will surely apply later.
