This installation will recreate a legendary party that fashion illustrator Antonio Lopez and his creative collaborator Juan Ramos threw for their friends. Guests were invited to have their photos taken with a large format Polaroid camera.
About
The instant prints were hung on the wall as the party filled and more and more people came. Visitors will be invited to recreate this occasion, as an homage to the renowned Puerto Rican fashion illustrator who bridged NYC subculture and style with a broader high-fashion audience.
Fashion illustrator Antonio Lopez and his collaborator Juan Ramos are the subjects of a solo exhibition, "Antonio Lopez: Future Funk Fashion" on view through November 26, 2016 at El Museo del Barrio. It features drawings of many different kinds of garments, prototypes for fantasy shoes, Antonio’s well-known instamatic photographs, portraits of various fashion world luminaries, documentary photographs, and many materials from the duo’s archives. The artists’ daring exploration of race, gender and the body through fashion are key elements of the exhibition. El Museo del Barrio is the first museum of Latin American art in the United States.
