About
Anthony taylor is an artist working within the traditions of contemporary figurative painting. The human figure is central to his work and is often set amid a dramatic and abstract context. Anthony uses vibrant colours and bold shapes to define the underlying tensions that the subject might suggest.
He works a theme over a long period of time allowing the development of one idea to generate others. The outcome is a ‘suite’ of paintings including many small studies along with preparatory and finished drawings that add to the series, supporting and informing the larger ‘finished’ pieces.
His themes are based on real, experienced events and everyday situations often reflecting tragi-comic views of life. Surreptitious observations are carried out to capture mood and the emotional complexities of the figure.
