Oriel Wrecsam hosts an evening of presentation, discussion and performance from Ant Dickinson.

About

Ant Dickinson is a North Wales based electronic musician, sound designer and creative technologist working with unconventionally applied instrumentation and computer processes integrating elements of improvisation, indeterminism and mechanics.

The event will consist of a presentation and talk of approximately 20-30 minutes in length addressing approach and physical construction methods as well as algorithmic techniques and concepts. This will be followed by a demonstration and performance utilising the instruments.

Previous collaborative multimedia work has been shown at Blinc Digital Arts Festival 2011 and... 2012, Adelaide Festival 2015 and on the BBC's 'The Space' online platform He has completed compositional commissions for Cadw and Kew Palace as well as sound design projects for a number of permanent installations across the UK.

During 2013 and 2014 Dickinson was 'Sound And Music’s' first international Embedded artist in residence at ElektronMusikStudion in Stockholm and is one of their New Voices composers exhibiting on Google Cultural Institute. During 2015 he performed and exhibited in Finland, Naples and at Cyland Digital Arts Festival at The Hermitage Museum, St.Petersburg.

Throughout Winter 2015 and Spring 2016 Dickinson has been working on 'Crossed Lines', a musical and visual exploration of digitally controlled, mechanised, hand crafted instruments, supported by Arts Council Wales. Through the use of digitally controlled solenoids and motors combined with computer based sequencing the project explores the sonic potential of traditional/medieval Welsh instruments outside of conventional musical technique and structures.
