AN EXHIBITION BY THREE LOCAL ARTISTS WHO HAVE DEVELOPED A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH NATURE VIA THEIR ARTISTIC PRACTICE
About
ANOTHER GREEN WORLD showcases the work of three local artists who have developed an intensely personal relationship with nature via their artistic practice. The response to nature as a means of inspiration and general wellbeing became very pertinent during the pandemic lockdown.
Cole’s artistic pursuits spill into every area of her life: she will find a leaf on a walk; the leaf becomes a motif of joy and a marker of the day, she will extend this experience back in the studio via drawing, watercolour painting and printing. She will print herself a scarf from the leaf drawings and then wear that scarf on new adventures. Her work becomes cyclical and performative in this sense. Coop navigates an urban retreat into nature via drawing: dens to hide in, enticing pathways, places that initially look cosy but may actually be sinister. During the pandemic Mahoney ditched her urban life for a year spent totally embedded within the rural landscape of Wicklow, in Ireland, working in a cowshed-studio and often painting outside. She lived nature and became highly attuned to its shifts and moods. The resulting paintings are filled with personality and force.
Together their work starts a conversation between how we embed identity within landscape and how different strategies resonate.
