The Gallery, which sits in the heart of Manchester, was started in October 2016 by Ian and Catherine Hay with the aim of celebrating the diverse works of regional, contemporary artists creating stand-out paintings, drawings, sculpture and photography. Since opening five years ago, it has been home to the very best contemporary art from the vibrant art scene of Manchester and the UK. 

Director Ian Hay says: “We are extremely happy to be celebrating our fifth anniversary and are hugely proud of the work we have achieved in supporting up and coming, incredible artists. We have a loyal following of art lovers who travel across the UK to visit our varied range of exhibitions which this year alone have included a celebration of Brutalism, contemporary British sculpture and paintings from Linnet Panashe Rubaya celebrating black female joy.

“While we have taken a hit during the pandemic, just as all galleries and artists have, our online presence has continued to grow, and we are excited to continue to provide an inspiring place for visitors to see what brilliant works are coming out of the north in 2021.” 

Ian Hay is a prolific art industry expert and has been involved in a number of events across the region, including being a judge on the Greater Manchester Art Prize. He also sponsors and judges the Saul Hay Emerging Artist Prize with New Light, a group which celebrates and promotes the visual arts in the North of England. 

The exhibition will be showcasing favourites at the Gallery including contemporary artists, Mandy Payne, Jen Orpin, Deborah Grice, Steven Heaton, Olga Geoghegan, Mark Gibbs and Deborah Grice among many others.
