Anousha Payne's 'Love Objects' is an exploration of narcissism in relation to social media. In psycho-analysis, ‘object-love’ is an item that a classic narcissist becomes attached to because they can see something of themselves within it. This has become more literal in the digital age.
Payne is interested in the absurdity which exists on social media.
Individuals take hundreds of generic selfies and apply them with typically mundane or falsified captions that often make little or no sense in relation to the image. Within these digital platforms narcissism appears to be a prerequisite whilst pure thought and instinct have become a rarity.
