In her solo exhibition, the artist Annika Kahrs presents a new video work in which she interprets the acoustic signal that made gravitational waves audible for the first time in 2015, in collaboration with the composer Louis d'Heudières and musicians from Los Angeles. Her artistic and musical exploration of gravitational waves is scientifically supported by Dr. Keith Thorne, physicist at LIGO (Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory) in the USA. A few years ago, it was possible for the first time to translate gravitational waves, i.e. waves in the fabric of space-time that are caused, among other things, by colliding black holes and “travel” at the speed of light, into acoustic signals.
