'Psychological Landscapes: Journey Within’ is a captivating collection of paintings that explores the intricate complexities of the human mind, the language of emotions, and creative intuition.
About
In her previous works, Anna analysed medical stories and explored symbolism related to pain, toothaches, and post-mortem across different cultures. These pieces provided anthropological insights into the psyche of people and their deep connection with primal and spiritual forces. The current series began during the pandemic lockdown and evolved, fuelled by the inner world of fantasy, memory, and fundamental questions touching upon deepest mysteries of life.
Embracing Jungian theories and the collective unconscious, Anna's paintings offer a glimpse into the rich and enigmatic concept of psychological landscapes. By incorporating archetypes, she explores external influences and delves into primal emotions, physicality, and spirituality through narrative expression. The body becomes a crucial element in unravelling the mysteries of the psyche, inviting the audience on a profound voyage through the landscapes of the mind. Populated with universal figures and symbols, these artworks deeply impact the thoughts, emotions, and behaviours of both the artist and viewers. Each piece becomes a personal myth charged with profound significance. The audience is encouraged to immerse themselves in these paintings, fostering a personal connection and engaging with their own emotions and experiences.
‘Psychological Landscapes: An Artistic Journey Within’ invites the audience on a mesmerising exploration of the human psyche, fostering a profound understanding of the mind's complexity and the richness of our inner worlds. Through this introspective experience, viewers are beckoned to contemplate the hidden emotions, memories, and experiences within their own souls, resonating with the universal essence of the human experience.
Anna Suwalowska, a Polish-born artist based in London, brings a unique perspective to her work at the intersection of art, health, and science. Graduating from the Royal College of Art in London in 2013 and the Camberwell College of Art in 2011, her background as a former dental technician adds depth to her artistic exploration. Anna's artistic journey is marked by her track record of international exhibitions, awards and residencies in countries such as Taiwan, Norway, Belgium and Hong Kong. She has collaborated with researchers and practitioners from institutions like the University of Oxford, the University of Cape Town, and the Pride of Ubuntu, an art organisation based in South Africa. One of the significant achievements of those partnerships is the solo exhibition 'Beyond the Body: a portrait of Autopsy' (2020-2023), which challenges the societal taboo surrounding death. This exhibition presents diverse cultural perspectives on the topic and has been displayed in prestigious medical institutions across Europe, the UK, and South Africa. Recently, Anna's work was selected by the Wellcome Centre for Cultures and Environments of Health in partnership with the World Health Organisation to showcase how behavioural and cultural aspects of life contribute to improving health outcomes for individuals, communities, and the planet. Through her artistic practice, Anna seeks to break down societal norms and prejudices, sparking discussions on sensitive topics and fostering positive impacts on individuals and communities.
