Anna Lucas is a London based artist film-maker. Her film, Little White Feather and the Hunter, examines the fact and fiction associated with the myth of Native American Princess Pocahontas. It was commissioned in 2009 (Commissions East) in commemoration of the American connections between Essex and Virginia, USA as part of the Jamestown 400 anniversary of the first permanent English speaking settlement in North America. Using Pocahontas as a virtual guide Anna Lucas travelled around Virginia, USA late in 2007 in search of the âtruth'. The ensuing single screen film evidences instead the multiplicity of anecdotes gathered from experts and amateurs on both sides of the Atlantic as it investigates and processes a story that has been told and re-told over time and is never quite finite. The myth is celebrated locally as John Rolfe was born in Heacham and a portrait of Pocahontas and her young son Thomas hangs in King's Lynn in the Town Hall Collection.
