Anna Jermolaewa designs the Austrian pavilion at the Biennale Arte 2024 in Venice.

About

The curator is Gabriele Spindler . In her work, the artist, who was born in Leningrad (USSR) and has lived in Vienna since 1989, repeatedly proves to be a precise observer of human coexistence, its social conditions and political prerequisites. For the Austrian contribution, Jermolaewa ranges from her personal migration experience to forms of non-violent resistance against authoritarian regimes. The presentation in the pavilion will include videos, installations, light objects, sound and performative elements in a combination of newly developed works as well as extensions of the artist's existing works.

Anna Jermolaewa's contribution to the Austria Pavilion fits perfectly into the general theme of the 2024 Art Biennale formulated by curator Adriano Pedrosa , which, with Stranieri Ovunque - Foreigners Everywhere, focuses on the topic of foreignness, migration as well as questions of national identity and cultural diversity Focused on artists who know flight and migration from their own experience.

Art and Culture State Secretary Andrea Mayer : "The Venice Biennale is probably the most important art exhibition in the world and impressively demonstrated this status last year. The show continues to make an incredibly important contribution to the aesthetic, but also socio-political, cultural and intercultural Discourse. It is good and important that Austria is strongly represented at the Biennale and presents a decisive contribution to this international exhibition of contemporary art. That is precisely why it is a great pleasure for me that the Austrian contribution for 2024 will take on particularly current and relevant positions ."
