AniMotion brings together imaginative artists including the world famous Aardman Animations to create a free interactive exhibition which celebrates the diverse world of animation.

About

This new exhibition brings together imaginative artists including the world famous Aardman Animations to create a free interactive exhibition which celebrates the diverse world of animation. New commissions include Mark Hewis’s innovative installation, which combines time-lapse animation of plant-life with a giant, slow motion zoetrope, and Space Cadet’s colourful projections onto a giant Day of the Dead inspired inflatable skull.

Visitors will see their faces come to life and fly around with wings, watch their friends become skeleton avatars and create their own animations at interactive ‘Animation Stations’ with a little help from Aardman Studios, the makers of Morph, Wallace & Gromit and Shaun the Sheep. The exhibition features several animation techniques, from a 3D zoetrope, to computer generated images and the use of virtual reality headsets.

There will also be a fantastic display featuring Morph the animated clay character who made his TV debut in 1977 in the children’s BBC art programme Take Hart. He was created by Peter Lord and David Sproxton, the co-founders of Aardman Animations and went on to become a regular fixture on children’s television throughout the 70s and 80s.

AniMotion is supported using public funding by Arts Council England and has been developed in collaboration with darts (Doncaster Community Arts) and The Civic, Barnsley.

Animators and artists commissioned to make new works for Animotion: Impossible, David Urwin, Eleanor Meredith, Mark Hewis, Spacecadets and Michele Panegrossi.
