HUGO GALERIE is thrilled to host ANIMA MUNDI : ERIC ROUX‐FONTAINE’S 5th solo exhibition in the United States.

About

HUGO GALERIE SOHO is thrilled to host ANIMA MUNDI : ERIC ROUX‐FONTAINE’S 5th US solo exhibition. After the success of Neverlandscape (Axelle Soho, 2012), Lunar Park (Axelle Boston, 2013), Jardins Secrets (Axelle Soho, 2015) and Souvenir du futur (M Fine Arts Galerie, Boston, 2017), Roux‐Fontaine returns to New York City with an all-new collection of mixed media paintings. These new works continue his exploration of the blurred line between reality and fantasy while introducing new themes, such as the undeniable connections between visual art, nature, and serenity. His multi-media body of work is largely inspired by his travels throughout Central America, India, and Eastern Europe, specifically to Borucan & Romani communities.

Roux‐Fontaine begins with sketches then applies thick layers of paint, pure pigment, marble powder and resin using brushes and spatulas. Using lush colors and stunning detail, the artist’s paintings delicately balance reality and dreams, figurative and abstract genres. His paintings tell stories while uniting art, music, nature, humankind, theater and outer space.

The artist was born in 1966 in the Savoy Region of France. He enrolled at the Fine Art School of Saint-Etienne at the young age of 17 and graduated Summa Cum Laude 5 years later. Since his first solo exhibition in 1991, he has enjoyed sellout shows and overwhelming success

throughout Europe. In 1995, the Musée des Beaux‐arts of the city of Chambéry and the Musée Paul Dini of the city of Villefranche‐sur‐Saône acquired works which to date are part of their permanent collections.

The Museum of the city of Lyon and the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (Barcelona Contemporary Arts Center) both featured his work in 2008. Also in 2008, Spanish private arts foundation Josep Niebla presented his first retrospective. In 2013, the historic Célestins Theatre in Lyon commissioned the artist to create 30 original paintings to reproduce as show posters for the season. In 2011, he was a guest speaker at the renowned TED event in Lyon. His work was recently featured at the Rotterdam, Paris, London and Dublin art fairs. His studio is now in Lyon, France but he spends a great deal of time gathering inspiration for his work by traveling internationally. Roux-Fontaine will attend the opening reception on March 24, 2018.
