Angela Thwaites and Adam Aaronson

About

As part of the exhibition of Teepee Glass Angela Thwaites and Adam Aaronson have been asked to talk about their work and experience. Angela Thwaites is well known as an educator and artist working with glass in the UK. Having studied MA with Professor Libensky in Prague in the early 1980's, Angela returned to the UK to set up her first studio. She has taken part in many national and international exhibitions and her work features in a broad range of publications and collections. "I use glass as an expressive medium, drawing on forms and feelings that are embodied as tangible, tactile objects, sculptures and installations. Although I am able to work with a range of media, nothing else offers the same possibilities." Adam Aaronson has been at the heart of British studio glass for more than 25 years, first as a gallery owner discovering and promoting new glass talent and subsequently as an artist in his own right. In the 1980s, through Coleridge, the UK's first gallery devoted to contemporary studio glass, Adam championed emerging artists such as Tessa Clegg, Anna Dickinson and many others now well known on the international stage. He opened Zest Gallery in 2003 with the dual goal of showcasing his own creative output while continuing his quest to bring outstanding British glass to a wider audience.
