A haunting series of new works by Angela Smith is currently on show at the Modern Artists Gallery, Berkshire. The artist has developed a unique and distinctive style using gloss, enamel and oil on canvas. Through the fluidity of this medium, shapes and images form on the canvas and Smith manipulates them to explore suppressed emotions and hints at tension beneath the surface resulting in a series of emotionally-charged canvases. The simplicity of the colours and the boldness of the paint combine to create extraordinary and remarkable images which are like no other. The quality and distinctiveness of the artist's work was recognised at last year's Discerning Eye show at the Mall Galleries in London where Smith was awarded the prestigious Parker Harris prize.
